Paul and Wendy Brawley own IMARA Communications Group, Inc., which publishes IMARA Woman Magazine, a lifestyle and personal-growth magazine for women of color. They met as students at the University of South Carolina in the mid-’70s. Married now for 36 years, the Brawleys have pursued their life’s passion of entrepreneurship, and community and public service. They are the recipients of countless business awards and community service recognitions. Each holds a Master’s degree in business from Webster University . The Brawleys pride themselves on being principled business owners who are as committed to God and family as they are to business and public service. Both serving their community as elected officials in South Carolina: Wendy, elected in 2004 to the Richland One School Board, served as its Chairperson for two years. Paul, elected in 2006 as the Richland County Auditor, is the first African American to ever win a countywide constitutional elective office in the state’s capital county. The two are members of St. Phillip AME Church and have two children and one grandchild.
